Our gatherings are centered around, communicating the Gospel and praising Jesus together.

As the lighting team, we can help in communicating the Gospel and worshipping together by illuminating what is happening, bring direction to where we are going in the gathering and by creating a welcoming environment to come together and worship Jesus.

Key Light

A key light is your primary source of light. This illuminates your subject.

During the worship time, you only need 1 key light and allow the other lights to fill in the rest of your subject. For the speaking time, it’s best to have 2 key lights illuminating the entire subject. Go back to the diagrams above and try to identify which light is acting as a ‘key light’ to which subject.

Fill Light

A fill light fills in the shadows created by the keylight. Generally fill lights, are 50% strength compared to the key light

During the worship time, our ‘fill’ will be created by the ambient light of other lights . During speaking times, our fill is created by having 2 key lights at the same strength. This creates a flatter more full lighting. As you can see, although the front of subject is lit, around the body (and especially the hair) is lost in the background.

Back Light

A back light illuminates the subject from the back bringing separation between the subject and the background.

During the worship time, backlight can be coloured. This helps create a ‘mood’, but still creates separation and depth. During the speaking time, backlights are to be set at white (or the same as the front key lights).

The video linked below is done with our console in our building. It is a basic overview of our lighting console and how the lighting is currently set up.

Thank you for going through this training
